Our Story

Our business came about much by accident. Ellie, a mildly obsessive knitter since the age of 8, got it in her head that she wanted to knit a cashmere sweater. However the yarn she found in stores proved out of her price range and offered very limited color options. Recalling an article she had read about how generations past had always reused yarn from knitted items, she decided to do the same with a cashmere sweater she had bought years ago.

The results were so successful that she soon started hunting down cashmere sweaters in local thrift stores. As with any knitter worth her salt, she quickly amassed much more yarn than she could ever knit.

A friend encouraged her to try selling her yarn in a local eco-friendly store, and Ellie’s Reclaimed Cashmere was born.
